Linlithgow, Near Edinburgh, Scotland

Linlithgow is located in West Lothian, in the Central Belt of Scotland,

just off the M9 Edinburgh to Stirling motorway. It is a historic and picturesque town with the Royal palace – birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots and Linlithgow Loch taking centre stage. You can enjoy a leisurely walk around the Loch and visit Linlithgow Palace. The area around Linlithgow is steeped in history. There are many castles and mansions houses to visit – Blackness Castle, Hopetoun House, House of the Binns. Nearby is Cairnpapple, this consists of Bronze Age cairns and an Iron age cemetery.

Enjoy a relaxing days fishing at Linlithgow Loch, Beecraigs Country Park, Bowden Springs or Parkley Craigs Fisheries. There are 2 country parks, which lie within 2 miles of the town, Muiravonside Country Park and Beecraigs Country Park. You can take a leisurely stroll round the parks, visit the deer and wildlife or ride one of the many marked cycle routes. Linlithgow Loch offers canoeing while a more leisurely time on the water can be found on the Union Canal, Linlithgow Canal Society offer leisurely trips along the canal. The Canal Society also offers trips to visit the Unique Falkirk Wheel. Or if water’s not your thing, take a gentle train ride on the Boness Steam train and visit Birkhill Fireclay mines.
